Random Stuff, including a Squirrel on Fire

I'm off again for work, this time to beautiful Switzerland.  I'll try to get some shots there, but in the meantime, I leave this blog with some random going ons from our life.

Turns out Donovan can give Keegan a, well, pseudo-piggy back ride down the hall.  I won't show the attempts by Keegan to carry Donovan, he was not nearly as successful.  It's amazing how they can argue over a little Foosball game, but do this without injury.

Lookie what I found at the farmer's market - duck eggs.  The first time I served them Keegan said he didn't like them, and Donovan complained he didn't get one.  You can see how much bigger Mr. Duck is, but the flavor is really not vastly different.  Keegan came to his senses.
Someone at school has started "Family field trips" - afternoon or weekend gatherings at a neighborhood park or museum, and we managed to catch them at the Cantor Art museum at Stanford, on a rainy afternoon before a soccer game.  The modern art exhibits were definitely a favorite.

If you're a This American Life fan, you may have heard the "Squirrel Cop" story, and oldie but a favorite.  Many years ago, we received a paint-by-number kit as a donation thank you gift, including the illustration of the hilarious Squirrel on Fire story.  Check out what Donovan and I accomplished.  Here's the actual...

I've been Memed

I was tagged for a meme by geekymommy at the hair dog chronicles, and I am finally getting around to it, whew. It's not that I don't like talking about myself, far from it, but I can never think of interesting things about myself. Next up, my "100 things."

So I'm supposed to say 6 random things about myself and I also get this cool badge - thanks!
  1. I love me some whipped cream and have been known to order a dessert just because it came with that yummy fluffy goodness. Neither of my kids like it, weirdos.
  2. The only thing I've pretty much ever used my undergraduate degree for is to impress people who are impressed by that sort of thing.
  3. I had a starter marriage - no house, no kids, no regrets (well, in my mature years as I seem to be running out of money I may have a few regrets).
  4. I'm mean to my kids sometimes - sadly, that was my son's response when I asked them to tell me one random thing about me. Fortunately, he's been smooching me all morning so I'm in his good graces now.
  5. I love to cook, just hate to plan, making it tough to come up with things to serve every single night.
  6. I partook in a foursome once, a long while ago.

I have tagaphobia, but will try to think of some others to tag - although consider yourself tagged if your are reading this.

Another "urgent" text from my husband

My husband likes to share oddities from the kids, well, with pretty much everyone. This was from last night, which he texted over...

"Keegan wanted to know how long it takes to make an atom. I called Steven [his brother] to let him know, but spoke to Sheri. I told her his question, and she said 'I know exactly how long it takes to make an Adam." So there you have it. It takes a little more than 9 months."

Adam is Sheri's son, our nephew.

Work is Kicking My A$$

Been totally lax posting here, (barely even time to read any blogs) but I've got another shutdown next week, whoop! Good times. Followed by my nephew coming (yah!) and then hubs going out of town (boo!) followed back-to-back conferences, one for work, then Blogher! So we'll see how it goes over the next few weeks. Still trying to read and write with my writing motherhood book.

I was talking to someone doing a bunch of stuff for us for a major project and he ended the conversation with "answer me this question, when are you going to get some sleep?" Hey man, I slept from 1:30 - 8:00am this morning (kids were at grandma and grandpas), that's a lot for me. I'm afraid it's going to take it's toll though, and I vowed to get more sleep. But when you need to talk to Israel and you are working with round-the-clock computer guys, hard to just turn in.
So instead I'll leave you with these awesome pictures courtesy of my MIL.
That first my son called the "snow dolphin" and insisted he'd much rather marry the white dolphin than the little girl. Below are some awesome sand castles.

The Numbness is Wearing Off

This sounds like a profound title, huh? Well, it's simply the truth. I went into the dentist today as my toof has been super sensitive, can barely eat those Trader Joes Belgium Chocolate with caramel filling, oh the horrors. Hot coffee, cold martinis? Forget about it. So I go in to find out I need a root canal - damn! And before Christmas so he gets me in today. Whoop! Fortunately I have a super great guy and there is hardly any pain. Or unfortunately, as that means no good drugs for me. I remember my first one when I took a codeine and the pain would JUST NOT GO AWAY. Advice from dear old mom? - have a drink. But, uh, won't that put me into a coma (says my dramatic self)? Nah, not if you just have one pill, one drink. I slept for hours and the pain was gone. Ah, the single life. Now I'm at work as it's more relaxing than home with the boys. I will pick up burritos so I don't have to cook, though. TTFN
