Embracing my Inner Soccer Mom

Alternate title - A way to show off my kids mad soccer skilz

I was talking to my sister the other day and she told me she'd started taking her son to Temple over in one of the richer suburbs of Dallas. He goes to church, but since we're Jewish she wants to expose him to this religion too, give him a choice. This is the closest temple, and she said she expected all the moms to "look like soccer moms, but they all look like you." "Uh, Heidi, I am a soccer mom," was my response. What she meant was blond and thin and dressed to the nines, a Texan soccer mom, in other words.

I used to be able to get away with being a soccer coach's wife, my kids didn't play on a team, but now I am a full fledged soccer mom, whatever that means. That's sort of the point, though, it means a zillion different things. My favorite soccer moms are those my sister fears, best portrayed on King of the Hill. Beth wants to get the term "media savvy moms" out there for ignoramuses who still want to lump all of us moms together. And then there are moms who play soccer, what better term that soccer mom for them?

What's my definition of a soccer mom? Someone who's kid can do this.

  3. Wow...Keegan reminds me of what his Dad used to do. Never thought it would end up being his career choice.
