Pros and Cons of the Wii, or Why I need a Wii Fit

The kids and I have been having a ball with the Wii, don't get me wrong, but I occasionally seek to question the wisdom of the all powerful Wii, although I am in sufficient denial that the Wii causes any arguments between my kids. I am confident these little buggers would find something else to fight about.

Pro - I really feel like it's helping me getting in shape, judging by my sore arms, legs and other parts of my poor neglected body.
Con - it's a little embarrassing that my exercise routine consists of playing a child's video game.

Pro - Mii's are fun to make, they come in all different colors and sizes
Con - My kids have no imagination, all of their Mii's are named lepy or piggy, Keegan's are blue, Donovan's are green it's like the alternate universe in South Park, the only difference is a goatee (or in Keegan's case slightly different eyes).

Pro - I've finally figured out the damn Mountain Boarding, exceeding the 2000 points it takes to "clear" the 'intermidate' (how Keegan pronounces it) level.
Con - it took me till fricken 1am in the morning and I believe I have permanently damaged my poor back, which is currently being treated with ye ol' bag o' frozen peas.

If only I had a Wii Fit, I could do some yoga for my back. As I can't possibly do it on my own, of course, I'm hooked now!

And in other news, no letter for my little boy, but Donovan's turning 5 today, so Happy Birthday Donovan! I can hear him straining and singing to himself in the potty right now, my little boy is growing up.

Behold the rainbow CCC (cupcake cake), an homage to one of my favorite blogs, cakewrecks (I agree with the fab author, more of a humor blog than a food blog).

We're bringing this to preschool today, getting a giant Costco cake to celebrate at MACSA futsal tonight, and I'll make him a requested pink cake in the shape of a pig for next week's bowling party.

News from the NY Times - do your kids need a laptop?

I signed up to get alerts from the NY Times, but for some reason I'm only on mailing lists for fashion tips and Iraq war news, not high on my priority list.

However, someone on a local moms club posted some interesting articles recently.

Here we've got the $100 (eventually) laptop invented by some folks from MIT (my alma mater) to spread technology to the third world. I remember when I first heard about the development, and while it's now come to fruition, seems they are not getting it out like they wanted. So the deal is, you buy one for your own kid (or to donate) and they will send one to another child. Very cool (there was a shoe seller that did the same thing, but the name escapes me now). I love the fact that they were so worried about negative web postings (do kids that young really have blogs?) that they did focus groups. My dad runs a non-profit called "Computers for Everyone" so this is sorta close to my heart, although his is more about providing recycled computers.

And on a lighter note, it's the cupcake controversy! Hee Hee. Me loves cupcakes, although I've never been to one of the new gourmet shops. Love bringing them to preschool parties, and I'm glad to hear our school still allows them.

The lazy way to make really pitiful cupcakes

I posted a question over at Mayasmom for a cute suggestion for preschool baked goodies, and then found this cool idea on the grand all-knowing internet. Only I was lazy...

  • Instead of making my own chocolate covered graham crackers I bought them.
  • Instead of cutting up my own fruit roll-up tassels, I used new "skinny ones"

  • Instead of filling the things with coolwhip, I just put it on top of the cupcakes.

  • Then I was rushed and it was hot and they all slid off on the way to school.

The result was this

Instead of this

And what did I find at school? Tons of cutesy cakes and cupcakes. I wanted to hide mine away, but I got over that and did some quick repairs. And my son wolfed one down anyway.
